Laser Rot is a new screening series created to showcase the EPFC Collective’s impressive LaserDisc collection.
Just like our beloved 16mm film series Vinegar Syndrome, all films will be selected purely by chance—a coin toss, a trivia question, bobbing for LaserDiscs, or maybe pin the tail on the title? An experiment in curatorship.
Because LaserDiscs are analog, they degrade over time. Laser rot is the appearance of video and audio artifacts during the playback of LaserDiscs, and their progressive worsening over time. Glitches, pops, bleeps and boops are all part of the fun!
A fun, casual viewing environment—feel free to laugh, talk, and comment on the movies as we screen them.
Presented in conjunction with our friends at Heavy Manners Library.
