LBCMA FILM CLUB: AN EVENING OF 16MM FILMS WITH 3TON CINEMA

Saturday, February 15th | Doors at 7:30 Films at 8pm

3TON cinema is an itinerant microcinema and 16mm film “orphanage” founded in 2009 in Oakland, CA. With their collection of roughly 1,001 ephemeral titles from the twentieth century, they seek to bring small-gauge analog cinema into the future in unexpected ways. 3TON has exhibited in a wide variety of venues (in twelve states), including Mack Sennett Studios, Ochoco National Forest, the Knockdown Center, Coaxial Foundation for the Arts, Sound Pedro, ATA Gallery, 16 Beaver, SOMArts Cultural Center, and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Co-founder Archly Terpsichore (fka Montgomery Cantsin) is a collagist and sound artist from Illinois. Co-founder Laskfar Vortok is a video artist and composer originally from Mérida, Mexico.

3TON's selections tour the margins of the first fifty years of 16mm as an amateur, artistic, and industrial medium. Includes: a quick jaunt through the streets of Yokohama (circa 1925); The Foxy Farmer (a Keystone Kinescope) featuring Kernal Cootie; campers enjoying Erma Bell Lakes in Oregon (1929); Joe Louis throwing his greatest punches (circa 1935); Igor Gorin singing "Barber of Seville" (1941); a lonely housewife teasing (circa 1960; not suitable for children); and Piece for Grate, a very rare and trippy experimental-music film from 1975. ...Program's other half features special ephemeral surprises and oddities from Craig Baldwin's Other Cinema archive in San Francisco.
