Join us in welcoming Elena Solis as this fall 's Echo Park Film Center Artist in Residence! We will be showing short films by Elena Solis as well as a selection of shorts by her community of friends from Mexico City: Paulina Grange, Andrea Alzati, Lorena Lira, Nicole Ucedo, and Daniela Solis. Free Event!
Elena's notes on the screening: I’ve discovered the films in this selection through meeting people that see art and video as a path for self-discovery; so for me, these pieces are documents of self knowledge, actions and objects recorded to repeat obsessions, intentions, and a little bit more.
About Elena Solis:
Elena started out her film career at the Laboratorio Experimental de Cine in Montevideo, Uruguay. Here she learned about art film, appropriation (found footage), and film performances. She incorporates sound art into her practice and is inspired by the fluxus movement. She creates experimental video and film works and has performed her film performance Habitando el Valle (Inhabiting the Valley) in Uruguay and most recently at La Feria de Acción in Mexico in 2020. With her sister Daniela, Elena hosts art encounters called Mutacion that provide a space for female and non-binary artists to meet and present their artistic projects. In 2020 Elena began to learn pottery, merging the possibilities of clay with her two impulses of action: light and sound. Her ceramic pieces will be displayed at Heavy Manners Library.
