MENDING CAFE with RADICAL SEWIST
Saturday, February 22nd 1 - 4pm
Thinking about dumping that old garment? Why not give love with your clothes a second chance at the Radical Sewist Mending Cafe! A sewing/mending cafe is similar in spirit to a repair cafe. It’s a place where you can bring damaged clothes or unfinished projects to receive help fixing or finishing them. You can also socialize with others, to get new ideas, make friends, and share common interests.
The mission of these cafes is to combat overconsumption, share hard skills, and create a third space. Every garment kept out of the landfill counts!
Through teaching, Radical Sewist envisions a sewing community for BIPOC, queer, and trans people. We see sewing not only as an individual’s way to reject capitalism, but as a collective’s tool to manifest liberation. We denounce fashion as much as we denounce fascism; we aspire to connection as much as we aspire to creation. Community is our heart–and to us, that means holding space for the interweaving of disability, race, culture, queerness, and neurodivergence. We aim to be a nurturing, co-created place: a space where self-care is a priority and all abilities are welcome. Won’t you join us, comrade?
Free! 10 spots available.
