PUSH, PEDAL, PUMP: A Screening and Workshop Series about Surfing, Cycling and Skateboarding in Southern California
Sunday October 15, doors at 7pm; film at 8pm
At The Garden: 3320 W 43rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90008 (Leimert Park)
Join us for a special in-person screening of the documentary Wade in the Water by David Mesfin!
"Get ready to be captivated by this incredible film that reclaims the 1,000-year-old tradition of Black surfing. Braiding historical accounts with modern-day testimonials, the film dismantles the racial barriers of conventional surf culture, delves into the overlooked history of Black surfing's legacy, and honors its current movement—inspiring the next generation of Black surfers."
We are honored to collaborate with the Wade in the Water team to bring our LA surf community together for a screening and discussion in celebration of the life of Dedon Kamathi, a surf legend, Black Panther, and Pan-African activism leader.
Free snacks, and additional food and drinks will be available for sale.
Chairs and tables will be set up in the garden, or bring your own blanket to picnic and lounge on.
Screening will start at 8pm followed by a Q+A session with director, producer, and cast right after!
Special thank you to Jason Gittens for the footage in the doc of Dedon.
